Solution	:	Compact ELiMS®

ST LogiTrack Pte Ltd was awarded a contract to design, supply and install a Compact Electronic Library Management System (Compact ELiMS®) for ST College, training and education arm of Singapore Technologies, the largest group of companies in Singapore.

Compact ELiMS® is adapted from ELiMS® and is designed to answer the needs of small libraries or resource centres. ELiMS® is a proven RFID-based system that has been deployed by Singapore National Library Board (NLB) to automate and manage its libraries since 1997.

Compact ELiMS® uses a multipurpose station that could perform self-borrowing and sorting with just one terminal. Returning the material is as simple as dropping it into a book drop located just outside the resource centre, where the system will cancel the loan immediately.

With the whole process fully automated, this corporate resource centre could now operate with a single library staff that focuses on providing value-added services such as membership, answer enquiry and helping staff find their way to the library materials of their choice.

The DIY nature of Compact ELiMS® complemented ST College's effort to create a totally Heuristic Environment for Learning & Intellectual eXchange (HELIX) among ST staff. Employees of ST Group could now access a whole array of books, videotapes, CD ROMs, training packages, journals and magazines without bothering the staff and yet ST College is able to track each item.

One unique feature of Compact ELiMS® is the email notification of the following:
a. Confirmation of loan
b. Cancellation of loan
c. Reminder of overdue item
d. Reminder of loan

Thoughtfully designed, ELiMS® is able to blend into any environment

Staffs are able to borrow any items without bothering the librarian

All library materials could be managed using the same process - Single User Interface

Locating just outside the library, staffs can now return materials even when the library closes.

System Overview

The ELiMS® Multi-purpose Station is a self service station that can perform borrowing, sorting and even returning within the same station. It is ideal for small private libraries with low patronage and small collections of library materials.

The ELiMS® Book Drop allows patrons to return their items at convenient locations and at any time. Loans are immediately updated once the patron deposits the materials into the book drop.

TheELiMS® EAS Gantry is the anti-theft part of the integrated library management solution using the same RFID tags embedded in the library item.

The ELiMS® Administration and Counter Station monitors the status of ELiMS® components such as borrowing station and book drop, and at the same time serve as a backup station that performs borrowing, returning and disarming functions.
