The
ELiMS® Local Host acts as a primary
domain controller, database server and backup server. The
local host helps to administer the RF stations as a single
group in the local network.
The
local host holds database that accessed by each of the RF
stations and records all the transaction history carry out
in the branch. It also controls various system parameters
and hardware parameters and captures the real time status
of the RF stations and alerts the administrators through the
System Admin Station.
Local
host runs the ELiMS® library management
software, which fully integrate each ELiMS®
components with the central database. Each process, for example
a patron returns a book, will be captured by the local host
and instantaneously updated to the central database. Patron
thus can immediately borrow again in any library. All transactions
are backup into this local host.
Sited
in the library itself, the local host is used as a back-up
solution when the central host is down. In normal operation,
the local host operates on-line with the central host. However,
in the event when the central host fails to operate, the local
host will automatically work offline on standalone mode. Data
captures from each process in the library will be stored in
the local host until the central host resumes its normal operation.
The local host carries out decision-making. This will ensure
that library operations will not be disrupted and no data
could be lost along the way.
For
smaller libraries that do not require central host, this local
host could be used as the database server. Alternatively,
ELiMS® library management software
could be installed and integrated with the existing database
server.
