The
ELiMS® Borrowing Station allows patrons
to borrow items without assistance from librarian and as a result
improves the throughput of the borrowing function.
The ELiMS® Borrowing Station is a
self-service station. Simple instructions are presented to the
patrons to enable them to checkout items at their own convenience.
Instructions can be configured in different format and different
languages to suit the specific requirement.
The Borrowing Station can be configured to recognize a user
by means of:
| |
a. |
PIN Code (password) |
| |
b. |
Bar-coded
identification card |
| |
c. |
Smart
card and |
| |
d. |

) |
To
borrow an item, patron simply places the item on the "Borrowing
Zone" or blue pad in front of the Borrowing Station.
The
system captures the electronic signature of the item instantaneously.
Once the transaction is approved by the backend system, the
"borrowing" process is completed.
The
patron is then presented with a receipt, detailing his or
her identity, date and time of transaction, the items borrowed
and their due dates.
During
the process, the RFID tag is "disarmed" and could
be taken out through the security gates without alarm.
